July Birthstone

July 1, 2012 by Janet

In all other months, the traditional, the mystical, the modern and the zodiac birthstones differ, but for this time frame, the Ruby represents them all.  In this picture are all  the elements ready for my July birthstone piece, when my vision is clear and the piece is finished I will post a picture.

The word ruby comes from the Latin term rubens, which means red.  It is the third strongest stone in the world following the diamond and moissanite. The finest rubies are the ones that are mined from Myanmar.

Some fun facts about rubies are that high ranking Chinese mandarins were given rubies because they were believed to provide guidance.  Burmese soldiers believed that if a ruby was kept under the skin, he will become invincible.  Hebrews believed that if a dragon was carved on a ruby, it would bring prosperity and health.  Hindus believe that wearing a ruby protects them from their enemies.

Beliefs of metaphysics are that rubies help to bring integrity, devotion and happiness. They help to enhance generosity and bring prosperity. The Ruby opens the heart to go past the boundaries of personal love and passion to unconditional love.  Ruby helps to bring and increase romantic love. It assists in removing lethargic and dormant conditions in the body, emotions and mind.  It is a stone of high energy and power that promotes healing on all levels.

June Birthstones

June 2, 2012 by Janet

The birthstones for June are very personal for me.  Not only because it is my birthstone, but because I love the meaning attached to all of them.

The modern birthstone for June is the pearl.  The formation of a pearl in the oyster is a true miracle of nature.  I use pearls in many of my pieces, they add a soft feminine touch that I love.

Pearls symbolize the best within us.  Honesty, purity , wisdom and integrity.  They remind us to walk with Dignity.  Pearls are calming and centering. They  promote faith, charity, integrity, truth and loyalty. They especially enhance personal integrity.  Pearls help clear the mind so that it can be a clean channel for wisdom and spiritual guidance.

The mystical birthstone for June is the Moonstone.

Moonstone is used in crystal healing to help calm responses and avoid overreaction. They enhance feminine energies, sensitivity, intuition and psychic abilities. They are also believed to bring strong energies of abundance to one’s life.  The Moonstone is a stone of protection while travel at sea. (Travel at sea was a major part of my adult life, giving it another reason for being one of my favorites)

Mystical birthstone June Moonstone

The traditional birthstone for June is the Alexandrite, which  was the favorite gemstone of the royal Russian family. Alexandrite is believed to increase confidence and self esteem. It brings about success and prosperity. It is a stone for spiritual re-birth and is used by crystal healers in repairing the tissues of the body.

Alexandrite is special and meaningful because of its ability to change color in different light.

May Birthstones

May 1, 2012 by Janet

The traditional and modern birthstone for the month of May is Emerald which is also the 20th and 35th anniversary stone.

The name Emerald is derived  “smaragdos” which is a Greek word means ‘green gemstone’.  Emeralds are found in many countries, but Columbia and Brazil are the major producers and Columbia is known as the source for the finest stones (remember the movie Romancing The Stone).

Emerald is a stone of love and romance.  It is believed to bring both passion and domestic bliss.  Crystal healers use Emeralds to enhance memory and stimulate the use of mental capacity. They believe Emeralds  to be beneficial to the spine, lungs, heart, muscular system and to be soothing for your eyes.

The ancient Egyptians called the Emerald the ‘Stone of Spring’ because of its green color. They associated it with rebirth and used it to aid in fertility and childbirth.

Not a big fan of green?  No problem, the Mystical birthstone for May is the beautiful Blue Sapphire.
